INTRODUCTION:
The Sindh Innovation,
Research, and Education Network (SIREN) working under the auspices of the Government
of Sindh and the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences
(ICCBS), is organizing a hybrid course entitled, “Protective Groups in Organic Synthesis” This one credit hour course
has been designed to provide Ph.D. students with comprehensive knowledge of
protecting group strategies used in advanced organic synthesis. Research scholars,
students, scientists, and faculty of SIREN affiliated universities are
cordially invited
to attend this important course.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the course, students will be
able to design efficient protecting group strategies for complex synthetic
problems, critically evaluate literature methodologies, and apply advanced
synthetic planning concepts in their own Ph.D research projects. The course
will be delivered through lectures, literature discussions, and problem-solving
sessions focused on research-oriented synthetic challenges.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:
Dr. Farooq Ahmad Khan
is an Assistant Professor at the H.E.J. Research Institute of
Chemistry, International Center for Chemical and Biological
Sciences, University of Karachi. He did his Master’s in Organic Chemistry
from Université de Bretagne Occidentale (UBO), France, and obtained his
Ph.D. in Chemistry from University of Neuchâtel (UNINE), Switzerland.
Following his doctorate, he worked as a synthetic chemist at OmegaChem Inc.
and ALS in Quebec, Canada. He later joined the laboratory of Professor
Justin Jiang at Lakehead University, Canada for postdoctoral research, and
also worked with Professor Marina Ulanova at Northern Ontario School
of Medicine in Canada.
Dr. Khan possesses
extensive research experience in advanced organic synthesis, medicinal
chemistry, and organometallic chemistry.
